I wouldn't necessarily say I'm a collector of any one particular item, but enjoy the process of collecting and find it like hunting for treasure. I love how others collect and how items that are collected together are arranged or organised in certain ways. I generally love collecting items with age, that may or may not have a history to them . If it's a found object with no story I just love pondering over; 'what they were, who used it, how did it get here?'.
With my latest work, I've been studying maps and mapping out old trackways & paths through the countryside. I'm using this as a starting point for the 'Collections' work, as I would like to study certain areas by collecting objects from around them, to then use and inform my ceramics. So that I map out and build up a maybe unseen picture of a place and investigate how this changes from place to place in different landscapes. I would like to explore how and what objects collect in the landscape above ground or below under our feet. How some are gathered by natural processes; such as the movement of rivers, others that collect through an unnatural process perhaps deposited or placed by humans.
